CAPT. SANSOM'S DEATH.
A Well-Known Sailor Died at Tappan N. Y., Monday. Captain John W. Sansom died at Tappan, N. Y., Monday morning. He was born in Sligo, Ireland, fifty-three years ago. From his youth he had followed the sea, and for twenty years was in the employ of the Atlas Steamship Company. He commanded the steamship Adirondack from the time of her launching, in 1888, to June last, when failing in health led him to resign. He was well known in New York and in the West Indies. A few years ago his ship encountered a heavy gale on her way to Jamaica. For a time it was thought that the ship was doomed, but he brought her safely to Kingston. In Kingston he received a testimonial congratulating him on his seamanship and bravery. He leaves a widow, two sons and a daughter. The funeral was held at his home, in Tappan, on Tuesday, at 8 o'clock. He was buried in Westfield, N. Y., Wednesday morning. There are spots where the roads have already dried up.
