Description

Photos of old and new Valley Cottage post offices. Captions: After a delay of seven years, the Valley Cottage Post Office has moved into its new home on Route 303. On this page, through the courtesy of the Valley Cottage Library, are photos of some of the community's other post offices dating back to 1873. At the left is the site of the first post office in the John Ryder home (now renovated) when the community was named Forest Glen. The name was changed in 1883 to Valley Cottage. Below is the Post Office in 1892 when it was on Lake Road. - The most recent Post Office, on Lake Road, at the top, as it looked in 1973. At the top left is the site of the Post Office (circa 1915) when it was in Goldrick's dry goods store on Kings Highway and Lake Road. The left wing of the Pollaci store, at the left (photo 1973), was the Post Office from 1910 to 1919 and from 1932 to 1960.
