Regiments & Companies

Although men from Clarkstown enlisted and served in many different regiments and companies, there are three main companies which were organized locally that men would have most likely joined:

• 17th NY Infantry, Company G, organized in Nyack in the Spring of 1861 at the outset of the war
• 95th NY Infantry, Company F, organized in the Fall of 1861 in Haverstraw
• 6th NY Heavy Artillery, Company K organized late Summer 1862 by Wilson Defendorf of Upper Nyack
