OBITUARY.

BLAUVELT — Near Viola, Rockland County, on Thursday, August 18th, 1887, Aaron Blauvelt, in the 80th year of his age. Mr. Aaron Blauvelt, son of Col. Cornelius A. Blauvelt, was born October 4th, 1807, lb the township of Ramapo, Rockland Co., N. Y. t and died there August 18th, 1887, after an illness of several months. These four score years almost completed gave ample time for the development, culture, and maturing of those Christian virtues which were so manifest in his character and life. True to the principles and usage of the church of his fathers, for nearly half a century he was an honored office bearer in the Reformed Dutch Church of West New Hempstead. He was deeply solicitous for tho spiritual and temporal prosperity of the church. With his whole heart he could say: " I love Thy kingdom, Lord! The Church of Thine abode." His entire life was passed within the bounds of the congregation in which he was born. After his school days were over, such were the indications of Providenoe that, for his calling and work in life, he decided to be a farmer. He loved the scenes, places, aud people about him. On May 15th, 1834, he was united in marriage with Miss Sarah Catherine Pelton, the daughter of the Rev. Samuel Pelton, who was then pastor of the adjoining Presbyterian Churoh. In the autumn of the same year, he took his bride to the new house which he had built during the summer; and in which they lived until his earthly life was ended. There the three sons and four daughters who survive him were born, and reared with the benefits and infiuences of Christian parentage in a Christian home. Although most of them had, years before, gone from that home to form other homes, two daughters remained to cheer (fold in paper not readable) their daily ministries of helpfulness and love. But in the providence,of God. the absent children could come home, and all . be together in the hour of his painless and peaceful departure. Mr. Blauvelt was a man of strict integrity (fold in paper not readable) kind neighbor, true friend and a faithful member of the Church of Christ. " The memory of the just is blest." The funeral services were largely attended at his late residence Monday afternoon, Aug. 22. The Rev. J. Laubenheimer pastor of the chnrch, offered prayer. The Scripture lessons were read by the Rev. J. Heard of the M. E. Church, and by special request the Rev. J. W. Coleman made the address. Favorite hymns were sung by the choir. The burial was in the West New Hempstead Church Cemetery.
