Potters' Field
Soldiers, sailors and marines who died in the Civil War and whose families were poor were buried in a 'potters' field, behind the Alms House in Ramapo, now the site of Rockland Community College. Several years later, the cemetery's board set the
undertaker fee for burial at $35, and the price of a headstone at $15. Today, the cemetery is named the Gary Onderdonk Veterans Cemetery at Rockland Community College
