This is the 1850 census showing brother Samuel (age 8) and Jacob (age 6). 12 years later they would be youn men, enlisting for service in the Union army. Brothers Samuel and Jacob Youmans both gave the ultimate sacrifice for their country.
Both are buried in a small family cemetery across from the town hall on Congers Road, right in the middle of New City. Their graves and their story are a reminder that history is all around us.
